Kiai Ma'shum is the son-in-law of Hadratussyekh KH Hasyim Asyari.
His full name is Muhammad Ma'shum bin Ali bin Abdul Jabbar al-Maskumambani.
He died on 24 Ramadhan 1351 or 8 January 1933.
Kiai Ma'shum was a prolific scholar, among his works were Al-Amtsilah At-Tashrifiyyah, Fathul Qadir, ad-Durus Al-Falakiyah, and Badi'atul Mitsal.
The specialty of this book compared to other sharaf books is that it is systematically arranged from tsulatsi mujarrad to successive ones, and starting from at-tashrf al-ishtilhi to at-tashrf al-lughawi.
Its simple structure and direct presentation of examples without much theory means that this book is worthy of being used as a starting guide for santri in studying sharaf, especially mubtadi'in (beginner students).
In addition to this book being a mandatory guide in some Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia, al-Amtsilah at-Tashryah is also a guide for studying sharaf in the international academy arena.
