The station was owned by several Wilmington area business men who formed Cape Fear Telecasting.
WWAY has been an ABC affiliate from its very first day.
The stations original home was on the 10th floor of the Murchison Building in downtown Wilmington, which provided beautiful vistas of downtown, Brunswick County and the Battleship North Carolina just across the Cape Fear River.
In late 1969, the station moved to a new building a few blocks north on Front Street that was the first piece of a redevelopment
of the north end of downtown.
In 2018, WWAY moved again, this time to Magnolia Greens just off US 17 in Leland.
WWAY serves New Hanover County, Brunswick County, Bladen County, Columbus County and Pender County.
The Wilmington Designated Market Area (DMA) is ranked 129, with more than 190,000 TV Households
