1/2 Dec 1, 1986 Three years after the founding of the Bangsa Jawa Association, Radio Bangsa Jawa was launched.
How did this come about? Salto, the broadcaster, at one point had the objective to make their programming reflect the Amsterdam population.
Because Bangsa Jawa was a formal organization, it participated in the programming concept of Salto, and as a result RadioBangsaJawa.
The origin of the Radio was a private initiative between Bangsa Jawa and Salto.
The municipality of Amsterdam was excluded from this, because the subsidy obtained was not intended for the Radio.
The association encountered no significant obstacles in the application for temporary hours from Salto.
In preparation, Radio Bangsa Jawa had the opportunity to run test broadcasts.
Formally, the 1st radio broadcast took place on December 1, 1986.
Messrs Suwarto Moestadja and Vincent Karijowidjojo were the first involved, or the first announcers.
It was not easy to recruit announcers for the broadcasts.
That was because there was almost or no experience with the phenomenon of broadcasting.
The broadcasts were mainly presented in Dutch and then in Javanese and Bahasa Indonesia.
The primary objective was to translate the activities of the welfare association to the general public.
At the time, the main target group was the Surinamese Javanese in Amsterdam and the surrounding area.
It also happened that some broadcasts were stopped by Salto because of financial shortages.
Since the subsidy received by the association could not be used for the radio, the association organized commercial activities to pay for the radio.

The 1st location where radio was made was at the location at Wilhelmina Gasthuisplein 23.
Despite the small space on the WG Square, the Association was able to develop a number of activities that could become very noisy during the joint activities.
