Ramayan is considered one of the greatest works of Hindu literature,
Shree Ramcharitmanas or Ramayana is an epic poem in awadhi, composed by the 16th-century Indian poet Goswami Tulsidas.
Characters in Ramayana -
Ram, Sita, Lakshman, Bharata, Shatrugan, Hanuman, and Ravana are all fundamental to the cultural consciousness of some countries.
For centuries, its characters represented ideal role models - Ram as an ideal man, ideal husband, ideal son and a responsible ruler; Sita as an ideal wife, ideal daughter and Laxman as an ideal brother.
Even today, the characters of Ramayana including Ravana (the enemy of the story) are fundamental to the grandeur cultural consciousness of India.
The epic, traditionally ascribed to theMaharishiValmiki, narrates the life ofRama, the legendary prince of theKosala Kingdom.
It follows his fourteen-year exile to the forest by his father KingDasharatha, on request of his step-motherKaikeyi.
His travels across forests in India with his wifeSitaand brotherLakshmana, the kidnapping of his wife byRavana, the great king ofLanka, resulting in a war with him, and Ram's eventual return toAyodhyato be crowned king.
This is the culmination point of the epic.
It is the most sacred book, and is read by millions of people every year.
There have been many attempts to unravel the epic's historical growth and compositional layers; various recent scholars' estimates for the earliest stage of the text range from the 7th to 4th centuries BCE, with later stages extending up to the 3rd century CE.
TheRamayanais one of the largest ancient epics in world literature.
It consists of nearly 24,000verses(mostly set in theShloka/Anustubhmeter), divided into seven Kands (Adi (Bala) Kand, Ayodhya Kand, Aranya Kand, Kishkindha Kand, Sundara Kand, Lanka Kand and Uttara Kand) and about 500 sargas (chapters).
InHindutradition, it is considered to be theAdi-kavya(first poem).
It depicts the duties of relationships, portraying ideal characters like the ideal father, the ideal servant, the ideal brother, the ideal husband and the ideal king.Ramayanawas an important influence on laterSanskritpoetry and Hindu life and culture.
LikeMahabharata,Ramayanapresents the teachings of ancient Hindu sages in narrativeallegory, interspersing philosophical and ethical elements.
The charactersRama,Sita,Lakshmana,Bharata,Hanuman, andRavanaare all fundamental to the cultural consciousness of theSouth Asiannations ofIndia,Nepal,Sri Lanka, and theSouth-East Asiancountries ofThailand,Cambodia,Malaysia, andIndonesia.
The only available hindi translation of Ramcharitmanas or ramayan ,Ram Chaupaiyan, Ramayan Chaupaiyan,Shree Ramcharitmanas in Hindi,Baal Kand.
This great poem is made available on this application for the first time.
