Lieviteria is at the same time a brewery (5 hL plant and 70 hL cellar under expansion), a yeast selection and propagation laboratory (under development) and a Brewpub for pouring self-produced beers.
The goal is to create simple recipes but with a precise character, capable of striking the drinker even in their essentiality.
Four years after its inception, there are 16 beers in the range for a total of around 450hL/year (expanding plant for a potential production of 800hL/year).
Some of the beer styles we offer follow the so-called "forgotten" beer styles, the result of insights into the oldest brewing traditions where the fermentable raw materials used often differ from the classic barley malt, such as wheat, rye, oats, etc.
Hence the interest in exploring native biodiversity in order to find ferments capable of characterizing the finished product as it was characterized by non-commercial yeasts handed down from brewer to brewer.
The brewery was born in Castellana Grotte (BA) and is managed by the partners Angelo Lovece (pharmaceutical chemist) and Rinaldi Pasquale (financial promoter), while the brewer is Angelo Ruggiero, known for the BEREBIRRA blog and finalist EMERGING BREWER OF THE YEAR 2020.
In 2021 we were included in the 50 breweries of the BEER OF THE YEAR award (not in the top 20) and our Altbier (Schumi) was included in the best beers of 2021 from the BEER CHRONICLES site.
We are also present in the guides: Le Birre d'Italia de L'Espresso, Atlas of Italian breweries, Guide of Italian beers by Slow Food.
