The Pneumatic Test Calculator is designed to calculate the overall pressure increase or decrease (over a set period of time) of a device/component under test, taking into account the effects of both changes in temperature and barometric/atmospheric pressure.
Inspiration:
A pneumatic test is generally performed on large Turbo-Generators which have directly water-cooled stator bars (windings) during major overhauls to ensure there are no leaks within the system.
Any leaks within the system could lead to flashovers/earth faults during operation and increase the generator downtime.
As the volume of the stator bars is constant, Gay-Lussac's Law may be applied.
Gay-Lussacs law, in simple terms, is that the pressure exerted by a gas is proportional to the temperature of the gas when the mass and volume of the gas are kept constant.
As pressure gauge readings measured depend upon the barometric/atmospheric pressure, the app makes use of the absolute pressure reading to perform all calculations.
Due to the size of the turbo-generators, several temperature readings are usually taken and the average is calculated.
As such, the application also features a built-in "average calculator" which may be used for quick assistance.
The output of the calculator shows the variation both as a pressure value (kPa) and as a percentage of the initial pressure.
Though the inspiration behind the application came about for the use on large turbo-generator testing.
The application may be used on any component being pressure tested where the component maintains a constant volume.
