WHAT IS MIOLELO?
Olelo is the Hawaiian word for language and mi means "my" in Spanish.
miolelo therefore means "my language".
Language, whether sign language or spoken language, is very important for children to be able to communicate.
miolelo wants to help children to find a good introduction to the language.
This succeeds with a small, intuitive world that children explore in a playful way.
Thanks to the appealing graphics and the well thought-out operating concept, they learn with ease.
The appropriate gesture can be displayed directly for each image, which enables a memorable assignment.
The playful quiz is fun for children and motivates them to keep going.
In addition to sign language, the children's area can also be completely switched to spoken language in order to train listening comprehension.
In addition, miolelo offers a parent area.
All signs can be viewed, sorted and filtered here in list form.
There is also a quiz here to test your learning progress.
miolelo uses signs from the German Sign Language (DGS).
The aim of the app is to make it easy for children to get started with sign language.
To learn more complex knowledge and to formulate complete sentences, we recommend a home sign language course or attending a corresponding school.

WHAT IS FREE TO USE?
All areas can be fully explored.
However, the gestures are only unlocked in the playground.

CHILDRENS AREA
- Show gesture: A hand icon is displayed for each picture.
By clicking on the hand symbol, the appropriate gesture is displayed.
- Move: In almost every area it is possible to move left and right by touch.
Have fun exploring.
- Open sub-area: In many places there is a plus symbol that can be used to open a sub-area.
- Leave a sub-area: You can leave a sub-area by clicking on the door that is displayed at the bottom left.
- Start the quiz: During the quiz, a gesture is shown and the correct picture has to be found and clicked.
- Switch on hearing: Instead of gestures, hearing can also be learned.
The corresponding word is spoken here.

PARENT AREA
- Sorting: the list of signs can be sorted alphabetically or according to the order in the children's area.
- Favourites: Signs that are currently important can be marked as favourites.
- Search: You can use the search function to find signs quickly and easily.
- Quiz: The learning progress can be checked in the quiz.
It can be filtered whether all signs or only signs from individual areas should be queried.
You can also choose whether to learn the word for the sign or the sign for the word.

WHY SIGN LANGUAGE?
Children have a need to communicate and want to understand things.
If the development of spoken language is missing or delayed, frustration quickly arises.
Sign language helps here.
This is quick and easy for children to learn and helps them to communicate with their environment.
Regardless of whether they are deaf, fitted with a cochlear implant, with a hearing aid, non-verbally or with delayed language development (late talkers), sign language is a real enrichment for all children.
Even with children with normal hearing and language development, some parents also use special baby signs, since these faster to learn than spoken language.
