The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Greece, recognizing the right of visually impaired people to visit the Acropolis, a leading UNESCO cultural heritage monument, ensured their accessibility by navigating through a special application on mobile phones, the construction of a replica of the Archaeological Site and the creation of a tactile path enriched with specially designed tools for people with vision problems.
This special Application is available in two versions for Android mobile phones, compatible with all the respective devices.
It includes general information on access to the Acropolis and archaeological information of the Archaeological Site and its monuments, both written and oral.
At each monument, the application automatically recognizes the user's location and provides the corresponding information.
The user can choose the audio description of the place of interest.
The app works like a GPS device via satellite.
The design and development of the application was carried out on a completely targeted basis, with continuous evaluation along the way by the competent technical team and people with visual impairments, in order to ensure a perfect result, adapted to the needs of the users.
