James Alexander Robertson (August 19, 1873 March 20, 1939) was an American academic historian, archivist, translator and bibliographer.
He is most noted for his contributions to the history and historiography of the Philippines and other former territorial possessions of the Viceroyalty of New Spain.
On the completion of the Philippine Islands project Robertson went to the Carnegie Institution of Washington to work in its historical research department (190910).
In 1910 he moved to Manila and became bibliographer and librarian at the National Library of the Philippines for the next six years.
During his time in the Philippines Robertson was instrumental in establishing library science as a discipline for instruction at the University of the Philippines.
