During this conflict, the occupying French army destroyed many castles on the Rhine.
However, Eltz Castle was saved thanks to the advantage of its location and its master's diplomatic skill.
In 1786, the Eltz-Rodendorf branch of the family ended, and shares of the castle passed to the Eltz-Kempenich department.
In 1815, Count Hugo Philipp purchased ownership of the Eltz-Rbenach department from the Eltz-Kempenich branch.
As a result, Eltz Castle once again became the property of one person and has remained so ever since.
The owner of the castle, dr.
Karl Grafvonundzu Eltz-Kempenich, nicknamed Faustvon Stromberg, is the head of the 33rd generation of this family.
